NO MENTAL TRAINING? NOT YET!

To be great at something, you have to be different than others and, yes, that sometimes means being weird.

Maybe you haven´t tried Mental Training up to now for the following reasons.

You don´t think Mental Training works

You believe that working on your physical and technical skills will be enough to reach your goals. Even more you think the more you invest in your equipment the better you perform!

One of the big challenges of seeing the value of mental training is that, unlike the physical and technical aspects, the benefits aren’t tangible. If you want to see improvements in your strength, you can see how much weight you lifted before and after. If you want to see your technical progress, you can watch old and new videos of yourself performing.

But, you can’t measure confidence, intensity or focus directly.

Mental training is not a part of your usual program

Another reason is that mental training is simply not a part of what you usually do in your training, so you just forget. I find this often occurs before and during practice. I will have, for example, described the importance of a training routine and how to implement one. But just like a technical skill, until mental skills become ingrained, they will usually slip your mind unless you focus on them constantly.

You don´t care enough

You have big goals in your sport, but it’s an entirely different thing to translate those goals into motivation and action. So, one reason why you don’t make mental training a part of your efforts is that you just don’t care enough to do the work necessary to develop yourself mentally. There is nothing inherently wrong with this lack of motivation. If you don’t want to be the best athlete you can be, that’s fine. Whether you achieve your sports goals or not, you will likely do just fine in your life.

Mental Training is weird

I’ll be honest: some of the things I ask clients to do in training and before competitions can seem pretty weird. For example, running around in an eight shape, breathing like a woman just before childbirth, moving your body while doing mental imagery and stage walkthrough or lifting your arms and smile. Maybe you just don’t want to stand out in an odd sort of way anyhow, because you are the only one around doing this weird stuff.

If you want to perform like everyone else, be like everyone else!

My promise: You will feel the difference! And you will see the difference in the results. With your personal mental training plan you will score better while feeling less strained. You will be the best athlete you can possibly be.

To be great at something, you have to be different than others and, yes, that sometimes means being weird.
